Chris
Conway staged this 20th Anniversary Concert cto celebrate
20 Years in Showbusiness - ie since he turned professional
musician in 1989. As well as asking Vikki Clayton , his trio
and Dan Britton and Govannen to play, he wanted to play all
his best loved songs. He also played a new song help me, a
new piano arrangement of Wonder, and the first recording of
live classic Three Headed Girl.
Chris and Govannen were a little tired when they arrived as
they;d had a late gig the night before in Grantham - but as
soon as the music rolled, they were off and played a hot set.
There was a great turnout and and the crowd response was fantastic.

trivia
|
A
cut-down single CD of just CCs songs was made from these disks
called Live & Peace & Outer Space - as a kind of Greatest
Hits Live CD for sale at songs gigs and promotional uses.
At the concert Christo in his excitement forgot a verse of
The Alien Jellyfish Song - this was restored seamlessly when
mixing the album - the version with the missing verse is only
on the DVD.
The concert was reviewed in R2 (RocknReel) Magazine with a
photo.

CHRIS
CONWAY
The Musician, Leicester
For
the celebration of his twenty years as a professional musician,
Chris Conway has rounded up friends and associates from
all stages and phases of his career and his set list and
instrumentation is equally wide-ranging. Filk (science fiction-based
folk music, a genre in which Conway is very successful),
Irish diddley diddley folk and plain old singer-songwriter
pieces all makes regular appearances, though his more-esoteric
electronic leanings are kept down to a single excursion
on theremin.
Lyrics
of the likes of ‘Carousel’ and ‘Train Of Thought’ act
as a powerful and thought-provoking counterpoint. The
gig is being filmed for a DVD, which leads to much entertaining
hamming it up, staged entrances and applause from the
large and warm crowd.
Highlights
include special guest Vikki Clayton leading ‘Ten Years’,
Conway’s playing of two whistles at once tour de force
on his own ‘Rainbow Real’ and the reliably silly and entertaining
‘Alien Jellyfish Song’. Yet it’s not only a measure
of Conway’s professionalism that it all does ultimately
come together, but also of the esteem in which he’s held
that the crowd don’t drift off as the clock approaches
midnight. It feels more like a gathering of old friends
than a commercial gig, and that can only be a good thing.
